The Eliot-Hine Middle School develops inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people. Our students are compassionate, adaptable, self advocates who are committed to global awareness, intercultural understanding, and respect. As critical thinkers, they effectively collaborate and communicate to find solutions to real world problems. As an IB World School, the Eliot-Hine Middle School is the middle school of choice in Washington, DC.
In the fall of 2016, the International Baccalaureate Organization authorized Eliot-Hine as an official IB Middle Years Programme. Remaining committed to a vision of educational excellence, Eliot-Hine’s Middle Years Programme offers a curriculum for students in grades six through eight committed to promoting independent learning, critical thinking, and inquisitiveness.
The MYP curriculum framework comprises eight subject groups, providing a broad and balanced education for early adolescents. The MYP requires at least 50 hours of teaching time for each subject group, in each year of the Programme. In the final two years of the Programme, carefully-defined subject group flexibility allows students to meet local requirements and personal learning goals.
To that end, Eliot-Hine offers full-year course offerings in all eight subject areas:
• Language and Literature (English Language Arts)
• Language Acquisition (Spanish)
• Individuals and societies (Social Studies)
• Arts (Visual & Instrumental)
• Health & Physical Education
• Design (Radio Broadcast)
